Every Groth & Sons project is executed in superb detail ensuring client’s peace of mind, confidence and complete satisfaction. But don’t take our word for it, here’s what our customers have to say:
GROTH AND SONS, MASTER CRAFTSMEN
When we began searching for a new residence, one of our priorities was space for a library.
Having finally secured the property, the challenge was to identify a skilled craftsman capable of designing and delivering a bookshelf installation that would meet our demanding expectations.
After thoroughly researching potential candidates, we engaged Amos Groth to undertake the task. And the final product fully validated that selection.
Amos discussed our needs, created a great design that fitted perfectly with the internals of the property, and provided professional advice about the finish that would enhance the final appearance of the installation
True to our expectation, Amos then devoted his professional expertise and attention to detail to deliver a final product that is everything we hoped to achieve: impressive yet perfectly compatible with its unique surroundings, fully functional yet entailing minimal loss of floorspace, and understated yet of obvious quality, thereby allowing the books it houses to be the focus of attention.
Thank you, Amos (and son, Oscar), for using your skills and experience to deliver a library that is now one of the uniquely impressive features of our new home.

Amos has transformed our living space. We weren’t quite sure what we wanted or needed when we consulted Amos, but he led us through from the conception and design phase with expertise, creativity, and thoughtfulness. Amos and his son, Oscar, have created a library and secret door for us, which bring warmth to and blend seamlessly with the heritage features of our home. We would be happy to recommend them to anyone – they are a pleasure to deal with and take enormous care with their work.

I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library – so said Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) and we agree.
Books are such an important part of our lives. We love to hold them, smell them; we love to turn the pages and we love to travel the journeys they unfold and the insights they reveal and we hope that we have many more years to buy and read. For us books offer the quintessential ‘hunting and gathering’ way of life in the most traditional ethnographic sense – sustenance. Our library is not large; each book is valued for a variety of reasons and the collection grows.
We read about Amos Groth in an article in the Sydney Morning Herald and filed it for future reference. We wanted to create a permanent home for our library and we wanted it to reflect the feel of our apartment. We needed easy access, maximum capacity, a little colour that would set the atmosphere of our living spaces, but most of all we wanted a library ladder – the ultimate symbol of ‘libraryness’. We ended up with two!
It goes without saying that Amos’s cabinetry skills are exceptional and we are so pleased with how things have turned out. In fact, so pleased, that the library has expanded from the study and living room to the hallway and we are contemplating new possibilities.
For Heather and I the most important process in the development of the library was the design stage, looking at professional drawings illustrating various siting options, evaluating costs and benefits and considering aesthetic outcomes, paint finishes, colours and responses to the height and shape of our living and working spaces.
What we found in Amos was an approach to problem solving through grand design. In such a scenario responses to context are critical to our thinking, however, a strong focus on detail leads to lasting satisfaction. And we also have a secret cupboard. What more could you ask for?

I was first introduced to Amos’s work by a very exacting and demanding interior decorator for whom he had built some wonderful wall units.
On subsequently engaging Amos I found him to be the consummate professional from design stage through to manufacture and ultimately fitting out of a very large built in unit for my home office in Sydney. He attended to every detail of design and execution and was an absolute delight to work with. When I moved I could not bear to part with Amos’s creation and had the architect of my new home made adjustments so we could dismantle the unit when I moved and rebuild it in my new house with Amos’s help. It lives there to this day and still gives me great joy.
I have recommended Amos to friends and have seen some of the innovative and original designs he has produced for them and am more than happy to recommend him to anyone looking for creativity and perfection.

My wife and I have had the sublime pleasure of employing Amos to perform work at our home.
We have been impressed with the unbelievable attention to detail that accompanies every aspect of Amos’s work. From the design and construction of a wardrobe to the design and installation of decorative paneling or an entire library, the same level of excellence continues. We have no hesitation in recommending any prospective customer to the services that Amos provides.
Amos represents a link between the modern and a time when tradesmen worked slowly and produced masterpieces. Amos quite simply continues to do that very thing today. We have been very fortunate to have discovered him.

Amos‘s work is at top of the tree, a most highly creative individual. The precision in Amos’s work is so rewarding and the care he takes to finish the job is a special delight, and really what everyone wants. The consistent element in Amos’s work is one of quality.
– The late, Leslie Walford – Interior Decorator – Social Columnist
We first met Amos Groth five years ago when he added some built-in bookcases and a dining cabinet to our home. Since then Amos has assisted us with bigger projects involving every aspect of design and construction, the latest including a superb new kitchen.
Amos is a highly skilled professional as well as a true gentleman. He applies the same professionalism and dedication to helping with the choice of paint colours or new cushions as he does to designing and building an entire room, and is a pleasure to work with. We could not recommend him more highly.
– Leigh & Peter Ritchie
Amos Groth is an outstanding professional. His workmanship is brilliant in every way, and the bookshelves, drawers and cupboards he built in our lounge room are superb. His communication skills set him apart. His explanations of work details are clear and thoroughly researched, but he also had my interests at heart … and listened to me. I find this a rare quality. Amos is extremely pleasant to work with.
– Elspeth Richards
Amos Groth built us some wonderful bookcases on either side of our fireplace a number of years ago. They were always greatly admired and were a feature of the living room.
When we subsequently moved house, we could not bear to part with them both for their usefulness and their attractiveness. Amos was called and he re-installed them into the new house as part of the study. I can absolutely commend Amos for his professionalism, his innate sense of style and workmanship. He is delightful to have working in your home and a pleasure to do business with.
– Sue Hancock
My wife and I wanted to refresh our lounge room by replacing an existing bookcase which had become somewhat dated. How fortunate we were to engage Amos Groth to do so. By virtue of his skill Amos has provided us with a bookcase of exceptional design and quality and at the same time has created in that room an atmosphere that is a delight to experience. What a joy it was to deal with an expert who personally handled design, construction and installation and whose attention to detail was extraordinary. We would have no hesitation in recommending him.

Amos Groth, of Groth & Sons, has worked closely with me over the past three years on a project close to my heart, my home library. A personal dream of mine for most of my life, to have found a craftsman such as Amos to bring it to life was indeed special. From our first meeting until completion, a span of over three years, Amos has been nothing short of professional, dedicated, and most important to me, passionate about the project as though it was his own.
Both Amos and his son, Oliver, are bright, happy individuals, who remain focused when on the job. They put so much effort and love into their work, a personal touch which remains within the library walls long after they have packed their tools and paints and moved on. It was a privilege to have them construct a dream before my eyes. Amos would take on board my requests and inject his experience and thoughts also, a combined effort laced with much respect.
It is a rare thing in this day and age to find an individual, let alone a team, who is worthy of the title, Master Craftsman. It has been a great honour to have had a third-generation expert apply his knowledge and experience to such a personal project. I cannot recommend more the work of Groth & Sons.
Sincerely, Dany Hatem-Rahme

I recently commissioned Amos Groth to design and fit-out my man-cave. The construction included full height book-cases, complete with hardwood ladder, audio-visual cabinetry, and a fully integrated bespoke desk.
Amos, and his son Oliver, were totally committed to the project, and produced a stunning result, on time, and on budget.Amos is a true craftsman.

Amos was commissioned to create a study/library in a very oddly shaped room of our apartment. We had a vague idea of what we wanted but left it to Amos and he produced magic. Not only did we get beautifully crafted cabinetry and a fabulous functioning work area, but as Amos is very much a big picture guy, we got a stylist-decorator included.
He is an artist. He sees the whole room. His enthusiasm and love of his craft is evident throughout.
Given the confines of an apartment, this installation was complicated but Amos and son Oliver made the entire operation pleasant. We are delighted with our new room, so much so there is another in the planning.

I always wanted a library and office at home.
After googling home libraries there was only 1 choice, “groth & sons”
It was the start of covid-19
Initial meeting at our house with amos groth started with concept ideas. amos showed professionalism at the highest standards and expressed that he made no excuses, it would be a slow process. unlike me, i wanted everything yesterday.
We agreed on concept ideas after a few weeks and all the plans were in place. amos returned to measure up and i was still impatient to get started. amos was very clear “there is process’’. we attended amos’ home to look at computer images with exact measurements.after returning home for final check measure, we were ready to go.
All the shelves and cupboards are hand painted several times with thorough care at their warehouse. every fine detail was taken into account.
Amos gave us advice on lighting and electrical work.
Then the time came to start installing. yeah!!
Amos and his son oscar starting the library. everyday i would come home, my question was ‘’have you finished yet?”.
Amos oversaw every aspect of the installation. oscar the fine young apprentice, if he can learn the art of cabinet making from his dad, he will prosper in his field.
The final completion was beyond belief. amos & oscar have made a masterpiece.
Amos’ way – a slow process – he did warn me. it has taught me to relax, enjoy the ride and make right decisions.
Nothing was too much trouble. attention to detail down the everything straight and exact. it was a pleasure to have their team in our home.
I sit in my office/library now and enjoy doing work,or just sitting and admiring the “a’’ class job completed by groth & sons.
I would recommend groth & sons for any job great and small.
The wait has been worthwhile.

– artisan, n.
1. A worker in a skilled trade, a craftsperson; (in later use) esp. one utilizing traditional or non-mechanized methods.
2. A person who practises or cultivates one of the fine arts; an artist. [Now rare.]This is how the OED defines an artisan. It is how I describe Amos Groth. In 2015 we engaged Amos to build a bookcase for my living room. I had ‘traditional’ in mind. Amos had other ideas. Being led through his design process – which was brimming with creativity, enthusiasm and originality, was an absolute joy. Always engaging, our interactions with Amos during this phase were collaborative, constructive and above all great fun.
Amos was extremely patient during our procrastination and occasional change of mind. As an engineer, I was most interested in the construction. The ‘how’. Amos invited me to his workshop and explained some of the techniques behind his trade. The standard of build, the quality of the install and the final finish are simply exceptional. It is rare, in this disposable era we find ourselves in, to find a craftsman operating to such high standards.
I wanted a bookshelf; I now have functional art in my living room. I’m utterly delighted – and a tiny bit smug – with what Amos has created. If you want a unique blend of craftsman, artist, gusto and flair, then I highly recommend Amos Groth.

This letter is to put in writing how delighted we are with the result of our bespoke library, wainscot panelling and decorative plasterwork you completed in our formal living rooms and hallway in our 120 year old terrace in Woollahra during March / April 2014. We have so far had hours of enjoyment in our new rooms since their completion, both in quiet reflection on our own and entertaining friends, who always compliment us on the beautiful installation.

I presented Amos Groth with a truly blank canvas, a large white and straight wall in my new, contemporary apartment, and asked him to create bookcases and cabinets to accommodate my many books and television. Amos applied careful thought to the design of what was the most important feature in my apartment, as it had to be not only functional, but also had to enhance my living room and complement the existing interior space. After we finalised the design, the materials and finishes were discussed with great attention to detail so that the entire design worked in both an aesthetic and a functional sense.
The bookcases, handcrafted and then installed by Amos and his son, Oliver, have transformed my apartment. My large white wall now features a perfectly constructed and beautifully finished integrated system of shelves and cabinets, which have transformed my apartment into my home. Amos is a master craftsman who takes a great deal of pride in the quality of his work, and who spends a great deal of time to create enduring and inspirational works of ‘house furniture’. I would have no hesitation in recommending Amos and Oliver to anyone who loves books and would like unique and perfectly crafted bookcases to house them in.

I’ve been involved with Amos for 13 years and 3 significant jobs – the most recent involving interior design, bespoke cabinetry, and furniture, furnishing, lighting and flooring selection across 6 rooms. And he’s a nice person to have around! I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Amos is an exceptional artisan. From our initial meetings, throughout the entire design process and up until the final installation of our bookshelves, Amos demonstrated a level of professional care and commitment that is rare in the modern world. His work is detailed, thoughtful and incredibly well put together.
As well as bringing his extensive knowledge of space, design and aesthetics to the job, Amos was extremely consultative and was happy to incorporate our own ideas into his vision. The pride Amos takes in his work is only matched by the pride we feel when our friends see his work for the first time. I have no hesitation in recommending Amos to anyone who values quality, beauty and craftsmanship.

On a recent complete renovation of our Hunters Hill home, I engaged the services of Groth and Sons for my detailed cabinetry. They were without a doubt the most professional tradespeople on our entire project. The care that Amos and his staff take with their work, and the work of trades that surround them, is beyond reproach.
From choosing paint colours and door knobs to complete room design, Amos was happy to lend advice and guide us expertly toward the high quality result we achieved. I have known Amos for almost ten years, and his professionalism and passion for his craft never waivers. I cannot recommend Groth & Sons more highly.

We’re not sure if words can reflect the gratitude we have for the mastery of bespoke creator Amos Groth (and the sons). The minute I met you and you stood in our spare room bursting with books piled in every space, books that needed a place to shine, I recall you took “Oscar Wilde” off the shelf. I knew then that this conversation would be the pathway to our dream.
You came in to our humble apartment and listened to our grand plan. You listened and heard and even though we both knew that it was a challenge with space, height and size, your positivity guided us. Every book needed a place and you knew that the only way was to turn our living/dining room into what is now, our beautiful live-in library. Our hopes exactly.
You listened closely. You incorporated my insistence for an easel for our large books which allows me to turn the page to a new piece of art every day. Your masterful eye saw a way of incorporating our treasured Gibran Kahlil Gibran portrait into the bookcase as a backdrop to our priceless collection of his works. Amos you didn’t just build a bespoke bookcase you transformed our space so that we and all who come to our home can enjoy a great meal, a glass of red, warm lighting and a book or two …without even leaving the table. And it is just heart-warming when Charlie and I come home at the end of the day, turn the key and walk into our live -in and living library.
With gratitude (and a pot of tea of course) xx Judy and Charlie
